A few weeks ago, I pulled my clarinet out of basement storage and took it to the Portland Music Company for a cleaning and overall tune up. I started playing the clarinet in middle school and continued playing all through high school. I was in orchestra and stage band, where I transitioned to the tenor sax, since the fingerings are pretty much the same as the clarinet. I was a little rusty at first, but after a couple of practice sessions, it has all started coming back to me. My airflow and tone are slowly getting better, so there are fewer squawks. I've been using a beginner's clarinet music book to practice scales and have a great book of clarinet solos full of recognizable tunes, like When I'm 64, Edelweiss, and Que Sera, Sera.
