Real life Jordanian Wonder Woman Whallops Creeps
Went to a great wine bar this weekend...Noble Rot, located at 2724 SE Ankeny, is a hip place to have wine (beer too) and small plates of delicious food...
The wine flights, which are three two-ounce pours, are a great way to sample the same wine from different vineyards. I was with friends, so we sampled a little bit of everything: meat plate with prosciutto, coppa, and spicy salami with arugula, smoked trout salad with fennel and beets, baked shrimp with garlic, panini with coppa, tomato and taleggio cheese, onion tart, flank steak salad with blue cheese, and peach tart with vanilla ice cream. The wine drinkers also sampled the syrah, pinot noir, and bordeaux flights. We got there at 5 p.m. when they opened. Got seating right away. By the time we left two hours later the place was packed and people were waiting for tables. Great atmosphere and a cozy setting. There is a nice room in back for larger groups too. A big thumbs up.

I woke up early Saturday morning to log on to my computer to buy tickets for The Strokes. But I couldn't get onto the Fastixx website. Obviously, a dial-up connection isn't the best way to buy tickets online for a band that regularly sells out shows. I panicked for a few minutes and contemplated going in to work to take advantage of the T-1 line, but decided to just go to a Fastixx ticket outlet instead, my local Safeway store. I got there about an hour before tickets went on sale and there was only one guy waiting. By 9 a.m. there were probably about 15 people waiting for tickets. I got away with tickets in orchestra section B, row A. Yay!
Elephants in the Thai jungle were given instruments that they played with and soon began to play on to create music. You can buy their CD at this site, as well as listen to some sample tracks. Very avant-garde and not half band for a bunch of pachyderms. [via boing boing]
Omigod! The Strokes are coming to town on October 22. I think I have died and gone to heaven. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. I plan to be in the front row. No cost is too high.
I just got Movable Type installed correctly. It took about four days before I could get everything running smoothly. I love Blogger and Grey Matter, but have wanted to check out Movable Type ever since I started reading Mena's blog, dollarshort. When I finally got this server space that supported perl, CGI, and MySQL, I decided to dive right in. So far, so good. It looks like a great publishing system.
I've finally got Movable Type installed correctly and working! Yay!
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was as funny as everyone says it is. A good time was had by all!
I can't believe football season is already starting up again. Our weekly Monday Night Football dinners commence tonight with the Pittsburgh/New England game. Unfortunately, I will have to miss out because I made previous plans to see a friend and I didn't have a clue that I was planning something on football night.
Race for the Cure is on Sunday, Sept. 15. Be one of the estimated 43,000 people to support this worthwhile event and cause! Register now!
I had a very busy four-day weekend. I was house/dogsitting Chuck, and it seemed like I had my own dog again. She's this great ridgeback/pit bull mix. She loves to be scratched and petted. I felt bad when I had to leave the house though. She always seemed a little sad.
After seeing Lord of the Rings, I thought I would finally give the book series a chance. I wanted to start with The Hobbit just so I had background on Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. However, About five pages into the story, I realized I was bored. I cannot get into the sci-fi/fantasy genre. Perhaps I will just try to start reading The Lord of the Rings, but I fear the same results. Instead I'm reading Cold Snap, short stories by local NW author Thom Jones.
