Here are the before pictures for the kitchen floor and the second bedroom. Below are links for the after pictures:
B and I painted the ceiling of the second bedroom yesterday evening. We also managed to prime the walls. It's all ready for painting. Even with the primer the room looks so much better! It covers up all the leftover glue and dirty spots that wouldn't come off. But the shellac-based primer has an extremely strong smell. I would roll the stuff on and my eyes and sinuses would sting. That can't be good. But it definitely takes the general odor of the room away.
Got lots of painting to do this weekend. I'm going to paint the built-ins in the hallway, as well as the kitchen cabinets and the one bedroom that is now wallpaper free! That bedroom is going to be painted a color called Blue Ocean from Laura Ashley. I'll post some pictures after the weekend.
I finished painting the kitchen this weekend. The walls are now gentle white, or as Laura Ashley calls it, Thalia. It looks much brighter and cleaner now. I primed on Friday night, painted the first coat Saturday, and finished the second coat yesterday afternoon. I hope to move the appliances back into place this evening and free up some dining room space. The floor in the kitchen looks fabulous too. The black and white tiles look pretty sharp. The cabinet doors are the next step. Most of them need a good sanding. I don't know about the inside of the cabinets though. Thery're hot pink now and some of them are flaking badly. I guess I could do it gradually. I should do it now while they're empty!
Everything in the bathroom was repainted. I haven't put up the new curtain yet because I am still painting the window trim. (Started this morning!) I also have a few other bits of hardware to install and still have a few more paint touch-ups to complete. But otherwise, I love it!
The Marmoleum floors are almost completely installed! The crew came on Tuesday and will probably be done today. It looks so good. The Flax color in the bathroom does indeed complement the yellow that I painted it. But the kitchen looks the best with the black and white tiles. I hope to get pictures of the bathroom this weekend after I've finished painting the trim and sewing up the new curtain.
The bathroom is so close to being finished! The Marmoleum floors get installed tomorrow and should be complete by the end of the day. I think that will make a huge difference and motivate me to get other rooms done. All that's left in the bathroom: painting the window trim, stripping the heating register, and doing some minor touch-ups. Concerning the kitchen, the sanding, priming, and painting all those cabinets does not sound fun. But I will spackle the cracks in there tonight and try to prime and paint a couple of walls and the ceiling.
The bathroom is almost finished! I started painting on Saturday and finished the third coat yesterday. I was a little iffy on the color (buttery yellow), but I think I like it now. I was having a hard time with it on Saturday because the old blue was still showing through in patches. I even primed the walls and ceiling! But because I applied primer to the corners and other cut-in areas with a paintbrush, it wasn't thickly coated. The areas I primed with a roller look fine. So I shall have to do some touching up to the corners. I also bought some new hinges for the cabinets to replace the painted up ones. Pictures soon!
I don't mind so much having my bed in the living room or my clothes in the basement or lots of boxes still to be unpacked. The only thing I am starting to mind is the odor in the house. It's a combination of wallpaper/glue being scraped off, general non-cleanliness, and elderly lady smell. I've comletely cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, but I think most of the odor is living in the wallpaper. I can't wait to prime and paint! The basement windows are also all barred up, so right now those windows can't be opened to let in fresh air. I guess I'll be unscrewing all those bolts this weekend.
I spackled all the cracks and holes in the bathroom last night. Didn't take too long. I'll need to do the sanding tonight. Then I can paint this weekend! Yay! I'm using Laura Ashley colors. The bathroom walls will be painted Pale Cowslip 2 (light yellow) with the cabinets and drawers being painted in Thalia (gentle white). All window and door trim and doors will be painted in Bleached Wheat (cream). Hopefully one room will be completely done. I talked to the flooring people and I'm going in this afternoon to check out remnants and colors for the Marmoleum I want in the bathroom and kitchen. They are holding this remnant for me, called Fresco.
Update: I chose a different remnant instead. This one called flax. They're installing both the kitchen and bathroom floors on Oct. 14. The kitchen floor will be charcoal and ivory tiles on the diagonal.
So, I've slowed down on the house projects this weekend. As previously written, I have been working nonstop on various projects. I realized other things in my life were suffereing because of it and decided to ease up. As a result, I had a much better weekend and got to hang out with friends!
