general adventures in craftiness
On the knitting front: I felted the bag. It turned out great. I need to take pictures and get them posted. I finished a hat for Brad, my brother-in-law. And currently I am knitting a striped vest and hat set for some friends from college who just had a new baby boy. Bart and I are going clamming tomorrow. That's my spring break! A nice long weekend digging in the sand. I am excited to get away and have some fun. Hopefully I can make some chowdah with our catch.
Jesus Shaves Classic David Sedaris just in time for Easter.
Playboy plans 'Women of Enron' issue This is almost too much for me to bear.
Hurray for Denzel and Halle!
The Old Mac That Went to Pot Funny story.
Groups Fight Florida's Ban on Gay Adoption As Florida officials seek to remove a 10-year-old boy from the home of the same-sex foster parents who have raised him since infancy, gay and civil rights agencies and children's advocates have organized to challenge a state law prohibiting gays from adopting. This is the highly publicized Lofton-Croteau case, which was featured on PrimeTime Live last night. It is appalling to me that Florida, Mississippi, and Utah have bans on gay adoption. I don't think the sexuality of parents affects parenting skills if they provide a stable, loving home. Kudos to Rosie O'Donnell for supporting the case. Send a letter to Florida officials via Let Him Stay.
'Whities' mascot about education not retaliation Solomon Little Owl, director of Native American Student Services at the University of Northern Colorado, chose the mascot "The Fighting Whities" for his intramural basketball team. A group combating stereotypes provided them with T-shirts with the name "The Fighting Whites," but the nickname evolved into Whities. Team members say they want to raise awareness of the issue of painful cultural stereotypes.
Rented The Princess and the Warrior this weekend. I loved this movie! Tom Tykwer, the director, had also done Run Lola Run. I loved the cinematography and the images. The dialogue was simplistic, yet also profound. It was a little long, but that's a minor complaint. I finished knitting the front and back of the argyle vest. It needs to be blocked and sewn together. I also need to add the accent stitching. I was awakened this morning by helicopters and gusty winds.
The true and scandalous story of Trading Spaces.
Good (or Unwitting) Neighbors Make for Good Internet Access An interesting article, however, not relevant to my neighborhood, though I wish it was. Wireless technology is definitely the way to go. I know there are some buildings around town where you can suck up free radiowaves but I haven't investigated yet.
Gosford Park was rather delightful. The only other Best Picture nominees that I need to see are A Beautiful Mind and Lord of the Rings.
