Mottled Scarf

Due to the freezing temperatures here in Portland, I opted to skip the lacy mohair scarf and knit up something warm and bulky instead! This mottled scarf pattern is from an old issue of Rebecca. I used some Rowan Polar yarn from my stash that was from Carolyn. I've been searching for a new sweater project and think I may have come to a decision. I'm digging this Rebecca pattern by Fiona Ellis. It's from the latest winter 2008 issue of Twist Collective. I love the cabling and the feminine shaping. Now, I just need to find the yarn!

New Projects

I ordered some KnitPicks Shine Worsted in Reef for the Rebecca sweater. It's pattern number 20 and has a relief stitch pattern. I wanted to try the new GGH Tara yarn, but I couldn't find it for sale anywhere. Hopefully, the yarn will get here sometime next week. I haven't worked on any knitting since finishing the Alexi cardigan earlier this week. I must say it's awfully strange to go so long without a knitting project!

My Textiles class had a field trip to the Pendleton Woolen Mills Factory this morning in Washougal, WA. We went on a tour of the mill and got to see wool being processed during the carding, spinning, and weaving stages. We also saw products like blankets and fabrics being finished. It was really interesting and informative. Lots of crazy huge machinery. There's also a store on site with a lot of discounted merchandise, including fabric. I bought about four and a half yards of this grey wool for my next apparel construction project, a jacket. It was only $3 per yard! I was thinking I'd use the remaining fabric to make some matching shorts, so I'd have a suit of sorts. As my lining fabric, I picked up this Michael Miller Disco Dot satin from Bolt. The Steffi jacket pattern is from BurdaStyle. I'll spend the holiday weekend cutting out my pattern and fabric pieces.

Good Mail Day

I came home to find my new issue of Rebecca waiting for me, as well as a large package at the door. Pictured above, on the right, is the next project I will probably start once the Alexi cardigan is finished. I love the stitch used in this sweater, as well as the three-quarter length sleeves, and the wide waistband ribbing. It was made with a new GGH yarn called Tara, which is a cashmere-like cotton variation of their Bel Air yarn, which I used for the lattice work sweater.

The package contained the Sew EZ Board that I ordered a couple of weeks back. I've been wanting one of these boards for a while to block all my knits on. I got the larger board, 33" x 51", and I can't wait to use it! It's very durable and sturdy. I got the board online at Joann's while it was on sale for $69.99 and then used a free shipping coupon.
